Big-budget spending in infrastructure
Article Abstract:
Taiwan's Six-Year National Development Plan aims to vastly improve the quality of life and set the stage for more economic development. This will be accomplished by completing numerous transportation projects and two nuclear power plants, improving of telecommunications systems and expansion of medical facilities. Other aims include restoration and protection of the environment and more balanced regional development to relieve congestion in major cities.

Foreign investors join the investment queue
Article Abstract:
Taiwan's financial markets continue to open to more participation by both international and domestic companies through steady liberalization to generate more competition so investors may have better service and lower fees. The government's decision to increase the number of securities investment trust companies authorized to handle unit trusts has attracted large conglomerates and foreign institutional investors alike.
