Big steel boom
Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: The Czech steel sector has to be restructured. More than 10,000 employees will have to leave the sector by 2004. The step has to be realized for the reason of the consolidation of the sector in reaction to global trends. The consultancy firm Eurostrategy Consultants has offered four variants of the Czech steel sector in its study. The firm recommends to accept the fourth variant of the setting up of Cesky ocelarsky podnik (COP) (Czech Republic) by merging Nova hut (Ostrava, Czech Republic), the division 200 of Vitkovice (Ostrava, Czech Republic), Trinecke zelezarny (Czech Republic) and Vysoke pece (Ostrava, Czech Republic). COP should be set up as of 31 Dec 2001.
