Los Angeles has survived riots, a recession and several of natural disasters to enjoy a strong recovery. Jobs in the tourist, entertainment, biotech and high-tech industries are growing, and only aerospace defense has declined. Reforms by mayor Richard Riordan could make the economy even stronger.

Article Abstract:
The dismissal of Bosnia prime minister Rajko Kasagic could weaken relations between Bosnia and the West. Kasagic was supported openly by western governments, unlike Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, who wants to thwart such influence. Karadzic's power is still too entrenched for peace to occur.

Green shoots: California
Article Abstract:
The California economy has likely bottomed out and is starting to recover, but the recovery will be very gradual. The long term outlook is better, thanks to the state's foreign trade, high technology, professional services, entertainment and tourism sectors.
