Bill Hamilton
Article Abstract:
Bill Hamilton was a biologist who studied natural selectionand genetics and was a founder of sociobiology. He linked altriusm with the survival of close kin and the passing on of genes of those who make sacrifices. Traits may not benefit individuals but may benefit the group as a whole. He also studied the idea of a selfish gene, and the notion that genes could be in conflict with each other. He also developed an interest in HIV and traveled to Congo to collect viral samples. He contracted a tropical disease which caused his death on the second of these trips.

A magnetic moment
Article Abstract:
Pulsars are created when stars explode, and the core becomes a dense object with electrons and protons merging to form neutrons. New research indicates that pulsars give off X-rays and are radio-silent. This may be related to extremely strong magnetic fields which quench radio pulses, but not X-ray pulses. The University of Texas at Austin's Robert Duncan, North Carolina University's Christopher Thompson have developed this theory which has yet to be fully tested since telescope technology is insufficiently developed.
