Religious and environmentalist groups have increasingly joined forces since a 1987 conference organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature, in which the environmental teachings of various faiths were explored. As many as 30,000 united projects have been initiated since the conference.

Salt of the earth

Asia is facing a major crisis in agriculture, as the usage of irrigation water is leaving salt deposits in its farmland that will eventually make it barren. Thousands of acres of farmland are being lost annually in Asia, which will have 1.8 billion more people to feed by 2025.
