Article Abstract:
Malaysia's most-respected, and only multinational, company Sime Darby reported a loss of 1.1 billion ringgit for the six months to Dec 1997. Sime Darby's diversified interests include machinery and plantations, and its pretax profits for the year to Jun 1997 were 1.7 billion ringgit. The losses were largely due to the groups banking and stockbroking arms. The banking group made some bad management decisions and recorded a loss of 1.8 billion ringgits for the six month period.
