Future UK Royal Navy aircraft carrier tenders sought
Article Abstract:
BAe Defence Systems, Boeing and four other companies were invited by the UK Royal Navy to offer tenders for its future aircraft carrier. The navy is expected to choose three of the companies for $8.3 mil study contracts during the fourth quarter of 1999. A prime contractor, which will come from two of the companies shortlisted after the study contracts, is then expected to be selected in 2003. The Royal Navy intends to acquire two carriers from the prime contractor to replace its three Invincible-class carriers.

Sampson active array radar supply contract awaited
Article Abstract:
British Aerospace Defence Systems expects to sign in summer 1999 a GBP100 million ($159.2 million) contract for the development and assembly of three pre-production models and the first production prototype of the Sampson E/F band (S band) active array radar. The production system is expected to have about 5,00 aircooled transmitters, each with a 10W output. Sampson is a subsystem of the UK version of the three-nation Principal Anti-Air Missle System.
