Bowman LAS bidders beat the drum in expectation of contract award
Article Abstract:
Hunting Engineering, along with Siemens Plessey, is offering its solution called MOSAIC (Modular System for Army Integrated Communications) for the Bowman local area system (LAS) requirement. The LAS is consisted of two vital elements, including a vehicle external data system (VEDS) and a vehicle internal data system (VIDS), providing combined voice, data and video local area network services within vehicles and headquarters complexes. The MOSAIC VEDS being proposed by the first team, known as the Command Team, has a 155Mbps bandwidth using an ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) protocol, and an Internet protocol for the VIDS. However, the competing team, Racal/Thomson, is offering an exclusively ATM solution, while adopting Thomson-CSF's Signaal unit proficiency in vehicle internal communications.

Harris quits an 'uneven' Bowman field
Article Abstract:
Harris RF Communications has withdrawn its bid for the HF ground radio portion of the future combat radio system for the British Army. Harris' move, as well as other factors that surround it, is expected to result to significant consequences for the selection of systems required to achieve the remaining portions of the Bowman program. Harris attributed its decision to withdraw from the program to the uneven competition it will face in the bidding, spurring opinions that Harris would have a very small chance of winning in the contract since Archer, the Bowman prime contractor, owns a major stake in Racal Radio, Harris' rival for program.

Another Bowman backoff - HF segment likely to be delayed
Article Abstract:
The Bowman future tactical radio system of the British Army suffers another setback when Raytheon withdrew from the bidding process for the Bowman program's ground-based HF radio part. Raytheon's withdrawal from the HF radio component of the Bowman program, which was blamed on the uneven competition in the field, came after Harris opted not to pitch for the HF-radio contract. US firms, such as ITT Aerospace Communication Division and GEC Marconi Hazeltine, were left to bid for the contract following reports that the British firm Drumgrange also withdrew its bid for the HF-radio contract.
