Asian investment banks proceed with caution

Investment banks have been dealing with some slowness, and the terrorist attacks of September 11 could further reduce the number of potential deals. Some new offerings have recently been postponed, but others are proceeding as planned. A global economic slowdown could cut into fees at some investment banks, weakening them financially and making them takeover targets.

Nikko Securities, like Nomura, will exit pension fund
Article Abstract:
Nomura Securities Co has already said that it will withdraw from the Japan Securities Dealers Employment Pension Fund, and Nikko Securities Co. will likely follow suit. Each firm would set up a 401(k)-style pension fund under recently enacted laws. The moves will have to be approved by the pension fund, which could impose penalties, and by the government.
