Brazil's Telebras sale breaks up behemoth and revives reform
Article Abstract:
Telecomunicacoes Brasileiras SA's privatization made a huge impact as to the future of the emerging market of Brazil and is set to measure the appetite of investors on emerging-market risk. The firm will be sold through the government's auction of the three fixed-line, eight cellular and one long distance service firm that make up Telebras. The government is asking no less than $11.7 billion for the privatization, which represents 19% of the firm's capital stock, but over 50% of voting shares. The sale expects to see Telefonica SA of Spain as one of the investors that will partake of Telebras.
