Brenner-Klage der EU schon unterwegs
Article Abstract:
The European Commission has referred to the EU court in Luxembourg the dispute about the tolls charged by Austria on lorries on the Brenner motorway to Italy. The decision might come as soon as in autumn 1998. If it is negative for Austria, which is expected, the toll has to be lowered and freighters will have the possibility to claim compensations from Austria. The dispute dates back to 31 May 1995, when Austria informed the European Union about an almost 100% increase in the toll for lorries. This was followed by another hike on 17 January 1996. The EU found this increase discriminatory, because it applies to 40-tonne lorries that pass the entire Brenner tunnel.

AUSTRIA: NEW RULES ON PHARMACEUTICAL PRICES
Article Abstract:
From 1 September 1999 the prices of pharmaceuticals to be launched on the Austrian market will no longer be determined by the Ministry of Health. Instead, pharmaceutical companies only notify the ministry of the price. In cases where the ministry considers the price too high, it is allowed to fix the price. The pharmaceutical industry association Pharmig rejects fears according to which pharmaceutical prices will rise as a result of the deregulation. It points out that new pharmaceuticals can then be introduced quicker on the Austrian market.
