British Aerospace post 24% rise in profit before tax for first half
Article Abstract:
British Aerospace PLC reported that its profit before tax and exceptional items increased 24% in the first half of 1998. The aerospace and defense firm posted 344 million pounds sterling, or US$577 million, for the first six months of the year, amidst decline of its shares due to concerns over a major contract with Saudi Arabia. British Aerospace attributes the increase to strong sales in both defense and commercial aerospace. According to the firm, sales for the first half of the year increased 9.5% to 4.24 billion pounds sterling, as compared to the 3.87 billion pounds sterling made in the same period in 1997.
