Brokat offer shines while Fortum waits

Brokat Infosystems AG, one of the leading electronic commerce security firms in the world, had a successful stock offering, debuting at 64 marks ($37.85) a share on Sep. 16, 1998. The German firm specializes in complex software that lets financial institutions to move electronic information over electronic networks. Brokat will raise 134 million marks in the offering if the greenshoe option is exercised within October 1998. While Brokat is savoring the success of its offering, the Finnish government deferred its $1-billion offering for electricity and oil group Fortum. This is because the Finnish government did not get the response it expected in the pre-marketing.

Investors monitor SAP's impact on iXOS offering

iXOS Software AG's initial public offering (IPO) will be monitored by investors to determine if the firm's association with German software firm SAP AG will bring in positive results. SAP AG's stock price has recently experienced an erratic trend for the past months and investors are wondering what will SAP's volatile share price could have on iXOS, which manufactures archive software for SAP's major R/3 software. According to John Pullar-Strecker, an executive at Aberdeen Prolific, the IPO will also be monitored to determine if the activities of bigger firms affiliated with smaller firms will greatly affect the smaller firms' business.
