Diageo reports 4% pretax profit drop

Diageo PLC posted a drop of 4% in pretax profits for the 1998 year. The company was hurt by the economic problems in the Asian and Latin American regions. Diageo, the largest drinks company in the world, posted 1.77 billion pound sterling (2.74 billion euros) for the year ending on June 30, 1999. In the year before, Diageo posted 1.85 billion pound sterling.
