UK police forces have reacted angrily to reform proposals from home secretary David Blunkett, and police are planning mass protest rallies. The crime clear-up rate has fallen to its worst ever level, and this is blamed partly on the abuse of sick days and early retirement.

Who will fight for the world?

A great deal of civil war is occurring around the world, and the West's role in keeping the peace is changing. Not all situations call for intervention as Western countries scale down their military forces. NATO should play a role when needed.
