Thailand has a booming automobile industry and most of the 560,000 cars made there are sold domestically. As the industry grows, more cars will be made for export. The state-run car makers in neighboring Malaysia and Indonesia can not compete with Thailand's private industries which welcome foreign investment.

Article Abstract:
Consolidation among car parts companies may shift the balance of power from car companies to the parts makers. Although the parts makers would then be liable for the performance of the individual systems composing a car, they would make more money.
