Bumpy road: as Toyota closes in on GM, quality concerns also grow

Despite record revenues and continued growth that places it hot on the heals of rivals General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Corp., Toyota Motor Corp. is facing a breakdown in its once quality management and is being forced to overhaul its once renowned production processes. One such plant being targeted by the company's president Fujio Cho in his strategic plan to staunch the slide in product quality, is the company's factory in Georgetown, Kentucky.
