Article Abstract:

The rupee closed the day at 42.46/67 on November 18, 1998. The rupee value remained between 42.43-45 for most of the day. Banks which had liquidated their open positions covered towards end of the day which weakened the rupee to 42.47. In the morning, dollar inflows from institutions surged the rupee level to 42.42. State Bank of India offered dollars at Rs42.47 throughout the day. (um)

The Indian rupee closed at 42.34 against the dollar on October 8, 1998. It opened at 42.34/35 and trading was carried out in the range of 42.34 to 42.38 with deals reported at 42.39. There was poor demand for dollars from corporates but inflow of dollars was reported through dollar sales by exporters. (uh)
