CHAMERA II BID PACKAGE MAY FIND NO TAKERS
Article Abstract:
The 300 mw Chamera II hydel power project of the National Hydro Power Corporation is unlikely to attract bidders. Nearly 25 infrastructure engineering groups have bought the bid documents. The Rs2,000 crore project may not attract bids since the time period for submitting the bids is very short. The Government of India is offering 30 days time for submitting the bid against the global norm of four to six months for submitting a bid. Bankers may not be ready to underwrite the funding package within such a short period. ABB, Siemens, Alstom, Kvaerner, Voest Alpine and Continental Construction have purchased bid documents for the project. (ag)

Re MOVES IN TIGHT BAND
Article Abstract:
The rupee moved in a tight band through out the day and closed at 42.39/3950 against the dollar on March 23, 1999. Dealers said that most of the dollar supplies were acquired by the State Bank of India. Large dollar purchases by the bank infused plenty of liquidity into the system and this led to a softening of call money rates. (khr)
