STAMPED, IN LEATHER - HIDESIGN
Article Abstract:
The Rs45 crore leather brand of Pondicherry, Hidesign, is yet to make a mark in a commodity market like India. It has already established itself in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia with its product range including leather bags, apparel and accessories. Currently, the Indian market accounts for 15 percent of the total turnover of the company. To enhance its presence in the country, Hidesign has decided to educate the consumers about the brand and has tied up with credit cards like American Express, Diners, Standard Chartered and the Times Cards for further promotions. To cater to the corporate gifting segment, it has launched direct marketing and has tied up with Jet Wings, the inflight magazine of Jet Airways, for a response promotion. At present, Hidesign has two company outlets in Mumbai, two in Bangalore, and one each in Chennai, Delhi, Pune, Pondicherry, Mahabalipuram and Goa. Its leather bags are also available in Shopper's Stop outlets at Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad and was recently launched in Bombay Stores, another emerging retail chain. In the future, plans are afoot to extend presence to Ahmedabad, Cochin, Nagpur and Calcutta, apart from Kathmandu, Maldives and Colombo. The expected turnover for 1998- 99 is Rs53 crore. (gsh)

AUTODESK SEES LARGE MARKET FOR GIS PRODUCTS IN INDIA

Autodesk is one of the world's leading software firms. It feels that India holds huge market potential for its Geographical Information Systems (GIS) products. It recently launched AutoCAD Map R3 and Autodesk World R2 in India. Its liaison office is in Bangalore. Its 2 distributors are Hindustan Office Products in Delhi and Neil Automatic Technologies in Pune. It also has 4 partners for the production of GIS systems. Autodesk plans to ally itself with 20-25 firms to promote its GIS products. (gs)
