CIBC to go slow on new positioning

Canada-based bank CIBC is making several internal and external changes before it launches any new advertising messages through its newly hired advertising agency, Publicis*SMW of Toronto. These changes include the completion of a nine-month research project to determine customer needs and wants and how the bank can provide what it promises its customers. The bank has not revealed the specific changes to be made but it has been pointed out that every aspect is being considered.

Toy makers jump on Star Wars trend

Some of Canadian toy manufacturers' marketing strategies are connected to Star Wars prequel 'Episode I: The Phantom Menace,' which is due for release in May 1999. For instance, Mississauga, Ontario-based Main Event Toys Inc is licensing a new Star Wars candy line that will be distributed days before the prequel's release. Meanwhile, Saint-Laurent, Quebec-based Wrebbit Inc is sound and lighting options to its Star Wars products such as an R2D2 750-piece puzzle.

Pokemon will party well past 1999
Article Abstract:
Nintendo of Canada Ltd plans to introduce four Pokemon games in 2000 to keep the Pokemon craze alive. Company president Peter MacDougall said the craze is just entering the second year of a three-year window typical for such phenomenon. The company will also seek more product licensees in 2000 to expand its current base of 30 licensees that range from tootbrushes to pasta.
