Article Abstract:
Another addition to the short list of Calcutta's family must-see places, such as the museum and the zoo, is the Calcutta Metro Railway which was opened in 1984. The surprising andinteresting features of the railway are its relative cleanliness, in a city known for its shabby look, and the escalator tubes going up and down the stations, respectively. As a result, many city-dwellers, sometimes go just to have a 'joy ride.' Passengers of the metro are a diverse mix of young and old, rich and poor, foreigners and urbanized Indians.
