Where there's muck: Malaysia's Berjaya Group poised to win sewer contract
Article Abstract:
A consortium headed by Berjaya Group is expected to win a major government contract to build municipal sewage systems in Malaysia. Berjaya, which has experience with gambling, tourism and property development, will form a consortium with the British company North West Water. Berjaya is also planning expansion in China, including a contract to create a computerized lottery. Analysts think the debt-laden company may not have the capital to tackle both projects at once, partly because municipalities are not required to use the consortium's sewage construction services.

All's well
Article Abstract:
The conflict between Malayan United Industries (MUI) Bank Chmn Khoo Kay Peng and Berjaya Group chief Vincent Tan over the takeover of MUI Bank is likely to be resolved. Tan plans to sell his 30% share in MUI to Khoo. The future of MUI Bank, however, is uncertain because of rumors that Khoo plans to sell it. Khoo may sell the bank because he has been facing a lot of regulatory interference from the Malaysian government. It is believed that Khoo has already sold 5.2% in MUI to Pan Malaysia Rubber Industries.
