Can Russia's Yevgeny Primakov shed his past?
Article Abstract:
Russian prime minister, Yevgeny Primakov, has previously been foreign minister and has run the intelligence service. He developed a friendship with Saddam Hussein in the 1960s. He is seen as well-connected and well-informed. His background suggests that reform is likely to be halting, if it recommences. Russia is hampered by economic weakness in its foreign policies. A Russian economic recovery is likely to mean that Yevgeny Primakov would become outmoded.
