Cancelling the resevation?: Does the Secretary of State have the power to call-in reserved matters?
Article Abstract:
It is generally considered that the Secretary of State has no power to call-in reserved matters pursuant to an outline planning permission, once outline consent is secured. However there is a view that the Secretary of State can call in reserved matters, which has serious implications relating to the practical application of centrally devised and imposed Regional Planning Guidance. The Secretary of State could question a scheme on design terms, if the local authority has taken the view that a development was acceptable and economically important.

Modernism comes to planning
Article Abstract:
The UK government is seeking ways of accelerating and simplifying the planning process. Regional policy will be determined by regional planning conferences, while national policies will be made more explicit so that public inquiries are no longer dominated by debate on the need for a project. Specific attention will be given to the handling of major infrastructure schemes, and consideration will also be given to improving the management of planning inquiries.
