Canned fish and seafood
Article Abstract:
The UK market for canned fish decreased in both volume and value during the period from 1992 to 1996. Sales totalled 347 million pounds sterling in 1996, compared to 356 pounds sterling in 1992. This trend looks set to continue for a short time, in line with the overall market for canned good, but a recovery is forecast from 1998. Tinned food sales are inversely related to economic conditions, but canned fish products should fare better than others, due to interest in healthy eating. Salmon accounts for 46.1% of the canned fish market, and tuna for 38.3%. John West Foods is the market leader.
