Cargo charges slashed at Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur International Airport's air cargo transaction charges will be slashed by the Malaysian government by up to 70%. The action comes after complaints have been filed oer high costs and ppoor quality ground service at the airport's Advanced Cargo Center. The government has proposed a new fee structure based on a flat charge of US$1.30 per cargo transaction plus an Electronic Data Interchange fee of US$0.30 per data kilobyte. it has also requested the airport's freight forwarders to immediately withdraw an unauthorized US$2.60 transaction fee.

Proposals to be submitted for new Hyderabad airport
Article Abstract:
The state of Andhra Pradesh in India has set a deadline of Oct 16, 2000 for the submission of detailed plans for the construction of a new international airport in the city of Hyderabad. Eight consortia have been prequalified and proposals would be based on a master plan prepared by Tata Economic Consultancy Services and Speedwing Consulting. The existing Hyderabad airport is severely hampered by its proximity to the city center and cannot accomodate larger aircraft such as the B747-400 and the A340- 600.

Chinese contract for high-speed Maglev rail link
Article Abstract:
The Shanghai Maglev Transportation Co has awarded a high-speed Maglev rail contract to Germany's Transrapid International. The high-speed rail link will connect Shanghai's Pudong International Airport to the city's center. Shanghai Maglev will be responsible for the track construction while Transrapid will supply the train, engine, magnet and signalling technology. The Pudong rail will use a friction-free magnetic field, designed to allow trains to operate at speeds beyond 430 km/h.
