Cash remains king
Article Abstract:
Cash has become more, rather than less popular, despite the usage of plastic money. Coins and notes in circulation have increased in value by more than gross domestic product in Germany, Japan and the US in the 30 years to 2000. Foreign holdings, usage of cash for illegal activities and tax evasion, and the proliferation of cash machines have all contributed. Governments can control economic transactions more easily if cash is not used, but companies may be able to function more effectively if they are able to have the flexibility that cash offers in freeing them of burdensome regulations and taxes.
