Cashing in
Article Abstract:
Transport costs for small volumes are an important issue for Cash Bases, producer of fabricated steel drawers to fit inside cash registers, according to managing director Hugh Burnett. It is vital that the company is able to export competitively, as exports account for 60% of its output. Its transportation work is undertaken by Laser International, which specialises in pan-European deliveries. The two companies have no formal contract, but run a true partnership.

Trusting in the supplier
Article Abstract:
Partnering with suppliers is a key way for companies to increase their competitiveness, according to Ken Lewis, managing director of Dutton Engineering. This approach has allowed the company to keep prices at the same level for the last five years. It now works with 12 largely local companies, all of which have a proven record in quality and delivery. It has reorganised its own internal stockholding using a Japanese management system known as Kanban.
