Centralized vs. distributed warehousing in Europe
Article Abstract:
The European Common Market has eliminated cross-border barriers to the movement of goods within Europe and eliminated the need to establish distribution centers within individual European states. As a result, pan- European warehousing operations are moving from centralized toward hybrid centralized-distributed models such as the extended enterprise model which integrates all supply chain players and centralizes logistics controls.

The European Central Bank will be responsible for applying one monetary policy on 11 European nations that have different economic structures, inflexible labor markets, economic cycles that do not mesh and rigid product markets. The political leaders of individual countries will be unable to interfere with bank operations because of regulations in the Maastricht Treaty.

The development banks suffer from mismanagement and lack of direction. The World Bank has strayed from basic economic development to big private projects, and the EBRD is hard-placed to fund Eastern European entrepreneurs when the economic infrastructure is lacking.
