Changes in European and Australian companies when they choose a 'Big 5' auditor?
Article Abstract:
A study of 193 companies in Australia and Europe which chose to use one of the five major public accounting firms for their professional auditing services found following the change the 5-year average effective interest declined for many of the companies. Overall the firms experienced an improvement to cost-of-capital. Two out of three firms who chose new auditors had decreased dividends, reduced operating income to total capital and raised same-year-sales per worker. Five year averages of ratios were used in the study as comparing individual years was felt to be inaccurate.
