Chase wins debt race

Chase Manhattan Acquisition Finance was the top lead debt arranger for major UK buyouts in 1998. This bank led the debt on a number of large leveraged buyouts, including the 851 million pounds sterling purchase of Willis Corroon Group. Fuji Bank was involved in a number of significant deals in 1998, including leading the senior debt on the 680 million pounds sterling leveraged buyout of Dunlop Standard Aerospace. Third place was taken by Royal Bank of Scotland Acquisition Finance, which lent 755 million pounds sterling to 38 UK deals in 1998.

Morgan Stanley top in France

Morgan Stanley was the leading adviser on mergers and acquisitions in France in 1997. It was involved in 20 deals worth a total of FFr179 billion. It participated in four out of the five deals worth more than FFr20 billion. Second place was held by Lazard, which completed 40 deals worth a total of FFr130 billion. Third place was held by Societe Generale, advising on 35 deals worth a total of FFr123 billion, while fourth place was held by Goldman Sachs, advising on 16 deals worth a total of FFr122 billion.

Goldman Sachs reigns in Spain
Article Abstract:
The Acquisitions Monthly league table for advising on merger and acquisition deals in Spain in 1998 was headed by Goldman Sachs, which undertook five deals worth a total of $6.6 billion. Goldman Sachs also seems set to perform well in 1999, having advised both sides on the $11 billion merger of Banco Central Hispanoamericano and Banco Santander. Second place in 1998 was taken by AB Asesores, which gained a total of 21 advisory mandates worth $874 million.
