Lazard sticks to knitting with new alliances
Article Abstract:
Lazard Freres in New York, NY, Lazard Freres et Cie in Paris, France, and Lazard Brothers in London, England, have been seeking to create a single global entity since Pearson sold its 40% stake in the bank in Jun 1999. However, this restructuring will not have an impact on the 'rainmaker' culture of the three houses, and there are no plans for a full service investment banking model. Lazard has established an equity capital markets joint venture in France with Credit Agricole, and has also announced an enhanced formalization of its mergers and acquisitions advisory relationship with Daiwa Securities SB Capital Markets in Japan.

Corporate Finance at B. Metzler GmbH
Article Abstract:
German investment bank B. Metzler GmbH has been focusing on expanding its Corporate Finance division, and is now one of Germany's top investment banks in Corporate Finance. It is fully owned by the von Metzler family, and this allows it to operate independently of external shareholders, institutions and interests. In 1999, it acted as financial advisor to Bayer AG on the initial public offering of Agfa-Gevaert NV in Belgium and Germany. It also advised ING Groep NV on the public tender offer for the outstanding shares of BHF-Bank Aktiengesellschaft.

Euro stars take fast track to Germany
Article Abstract:
Deutsche Morgan Grenfell is currently facing mixed fortunes. It is still losing significant numbers of employees, and is struggling to blend its two halves into a viable global investment bank. However, it is not in serious trouble, with league tables indicating that it currently occupies the middle ground. It has a strong home market, with merger and acquisition activity in Germany rising. In order to be really successful, it needs to be a little larger and much more focused.
