Foreigners get frozen out
Article Abstract:
A trade dispute involving China United Telecommunications and more than 24 foreign firms which have signed joint ventures with the company has resulted in the multinationals being denied their earnings from the ventures. This came about after the Chinese government dropped hints that the joint ventures contravened a ban on foreign investments in China's telecommunications industry. China Unicom has offered to pay back the invested money plus a small interest, but this was turned down by the foreign companies.

Measures unveiled in bid to aid exports
Article Abstract:
Chinese policy makers are looking for ways to boost foreign trade without having to devalue the yuan amid the slowing economy and complaints among exporters of stiff competition from elsewhere in Asia. China has tried relaxing export credits and easing up export licenses and tax rebates. The Chinese government has promised not to consider devaluing the yuan. Economists fear that a devalued yuan may spur another round of currency devaluations in Asia.
