Chinese hopes to fix Leaning Tower of Pisa
Article Abstract:
Chinese architect Cao Shizhong hopes to use a secret technique of his own invention to save the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy from falling to the ground. Cao, aged 61, has used his technique to realign 26 Chinese architectural monuments including two large pagodas. Realigning the Leaning Tower has been his great ambition for which he nearly secured a contract in 1989 but which he lost when he was prosecuted for receiving fees. Cao is now free to promote his work actively. He claims that his holistic method can return the Leaning Tower to its 14th-century tilt.

Leaning to the Right
Article Abstract:
China's politburo has called for economic reforms and has warned against deviating towards the Left. The politburo's decision marks the dissolution of the temporary alliance between hardliners and reformists. This loose coalition was formed in 1989 to counteract the country's pro-democracy movements. During the politburo's deliberations, supporters of Deng Xiaoping's economic reforms were harshly criticized by hardline Stalinists.
