Ciba posts 6% sales rise but outlook remains grim
Article Abstract:
Ciba Specialty Chemicals AG posted an improvement of 6% in its sales for the first quarter of 1999. The results were higher than what many analysts had predicted. Ciba posted a rise in sales to 2.1 billion Swiss francs ($1.42 billion) for the quarter. During the same period in 1998, the company posted 1.99 billion francs in sales. Ciba cautioned that its 150 million francs in cost savings for 1999 will only mitigate the impact of a troublesome market environment on the company's 1999 figures, and not completely compensate for them.
