Cisco purchases GeoTel for $1.9 billion

Cisco Systems Inc. has reached an agreement to purchase GeoTel Communications Corp. in a stock transaction worth $1.9 billion. GeoTel is a manufacturer of computer software. The move is part of Cisco's rapid entry into the voice-related technology market. The deal is also the second-largest in Cisco's history. GeoTel produces software that routs telephone calls to call centers or other resources from the customers of companies.
