Asia's World City brands itself

The Hong Kong Information Services Department led by Kerry McGlynn is introducing a new slogan and logo for the city to attract foreign investors and rally resident's pride. Hong Kong is being branded as "Asia's World City" with an Asian dragon as its logo in hopes of becoming the new financial center of Asia. Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa supports the brand as an alternative to previous campaign failures.

Fortune forum proves as good as its name for select merchants

The Fortune Global Forum that took place in Hong Kong in early May was backed by a US$1.2 million budget and security forces from the Hong Kong government. Critics claimed that the budget was extravagant, but the Hong Kong Tourism Board reports that convention visitors are spending a per capita average of HK$11,317, compared to only HK$4,539 per capita for normal tourists. The article chronicles the various expenditures by convention visitors during their visit.
