Soap and bubbles: Manila's bourses may merge by early 1993
Article Abstract:
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) was set up in Aug 1992 to replace the Manila Stock Exchange and the Makati Stock Exchange. The membership deadline was set for around Dec 30, 1992, and membership will cost almost US$315,000 after the deadline date. The Securities and Exchange Commission is intensifying the merger campaign since the US Agency for International Development has offered a US$13.5 million grant to boost Philippine capital markets. One of its conditions is the unification of the exchanges.
