Super Hornet's speed and range raise concerns
Article Abstract:
Boeing's Super Hornet fighter F/A-18E/F speed and range deficiencies are the subject of a report from the Pentagon's director of operational and test evaluation (DOT&E). The DOT&E report revealed that MiG-29 and Su-27 have greater acceleration and turning capabilities than any of the Super Hornet models. The report also stated that the Super Hornet did not meet expectations during its testing in 1998. The aircraft's problems are caused by aircraft drag due to wing drop. The report also indicated that correcting the aircraft's wing drop problems will have negative effects on its drag and rate capabilities.
