Boeing's Apache attack helicopter export activities shift up a gear

Boeing has announced it expects to receive orders for a maximum of 735 AH-64D Apache attack helicopters from countries in Europe, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific. The forecast upholds Boeing's decision to put more focus on military helicopter programs in its Mesa, AZ, plant. Export potentials for AH-64D includes 300-400 aircraft in Europe, including Israel, 175 in Asia Pacific, including Australia and Singapore, and 150 in the Middle East, excluding Israel. Export potentials for Apache, including demand in the US, are expected to keep the Mesa production line in business until 2008-2009.

Common Engine Program would boost Black Hawk and Apache

The US Army has announced its plan for a Common Engine Program (CEP) that will develop a 3,000-shp powerplant for the AH-64 Apache and H-60 Black Hawk and Seahawk helicopter families. The army said that a common engine will result in a number of advantages such as 25%-30% reduction in fuel consumption, a 60%-80% increase in power-to-weight ratio, translating into a 45% increase in range or 55% higher payload.

Black Hawk helicopter takes arms for export challenge
Article Abstract:
Sikorsky has launched an international marketing campaign to publicize the Sabre Hawk and Battle Hawk versions of its S-70 Black Hawk utility helicopters. Sikorsky representatives have concluded a visit to the Republic of Korea where the Sabre Hawk is vying in specifications for 26 and 36 multi-role helicopters. The Sabre Hawk did not meet the requirements for Australia's Project Air 87 competitions.
