A number of acquisitions and mergers have taken place in Italy's market for sweet and savoury biscuits during the five-year review period, from 1993 to 1997. Plasmon, a baby foods manufacturer, sold Misura biscuit/pasta brand to Colussi for approximately L40 billion. The acquisition created a new company called Niuco Srl, which conducts business as a subsidiary of Colussi. Nannini and Sapori, two of Italy's leading manufacturer of Sienese specialties such as cantuccini and panforte, also signed an agreement, which authorizes Sapori to market Nannini's products to larger manufacturer in Italy as well as in markets abroad.
