Computer integrated information processing systems utilizing advanced data communications software can benefit companies' management by improving productivity through the rationalization of planning, group functioning, and individual performance. Functional integration of management through computer aids shortens the time cycles of many business functions, leading to faster and more efficient: delivery response times; product development; and customer service management.

The benefits of creating foreign research and development (R&D) laboratories in the pharmaceuticals industry are examined and compared to the advantages of maintaining facilities in a home country location. Establishing foreign R&D operations provides new innovations to foreign subsidiaries; satisfies foreign regulations and pressures concerning R&D facilities; gains access to foreign expertise in certain fields; and stays close to foreign consumer needs. In contrast, centralized R&D facilities ease communication and management problems and simplify problems associated with foreign regulations.
