Conflicting spirits
Article Abstract:
Celebrations are being made in memory of the 250th birthday of Wolfgang von Goethe, who was active in a number of fields such as poetry, drama, biology and painting. A 17-hour production of 'Faust' is planned, the first performance to be totally uncut. His scientific works tend not to be read, and a quarter of those surveyed in Frankfurt, Germany, aged under 25-years-old, had not read any of Goethe's works. A number of productions are being held in Weimar, Germany, where a replica of his first house has been constructed.

The spirits that move Africa
Article Abstract:
The spirit world is seen as important in Africa, and spirit mediums are used to contact the spirits. The mediums may also work as healers, and educated people may have faith in spirits. Spirits may be tricksters, or simply indifferent to humans. They may frequent a particular location and there is a need to placate them. Western culture also placed emphasis on spirits until recent times. Cannibalism can be seen as having similarities with the communion, where the blood of Christ is drunk.
