Can Israel and Syria make it up?
Article Abstract:
Peace talks have started between Israel and Syria and the US is acting as an intermediary. Any deal will involve the withdrawal of Israel from the Golan Heights, amd Israel would receive security guarantees relating to Lebanon and Syria. Lebanon is likely to agree to any deal arranged by Syria. Hizbullah is unlikely to agree to a ceasefire during the period of negotiations. Israeli prime minister, Ehud Barak, needs domestic support for an agreement, and there are some divisions in Israel on this issue.

Arms for Syria? South Africa
Article Abstract:
Armscor, South African's apartheid-days arms merchant still exit although it has been overhauled. During 1995-1996, weapons were South Africa's second largest manufactured export. Separating villain clients from others is not simple, but the US government will work to sway the Africans their way.

Operation exodus
Article Abstract:
Israel has been bombing citizens out of their homes in southern Lebanon, hoping they will influence the Syrian government to stop attacks on Israeli forces by Hezbollah guerrillas. The plan seems to have little chance, and Syria has shown great restraint in not retaliating.
