Article Abstract:
Traditional designs and building materials were used during the Grand Shaft restoration project in Dover, UK. The Grand Shaft was a nineteenth century military tunnel constructed to allow the quick deployment of cliff-top based troops to harbour level during the Napoleonic wars. The workmen involved in the restoration project tried to ensure their work matched in exactly with the original brickwork.

Article Abstract:
The use of pink buff bricks on a Cardiff-based office block not only gave a pleasing exterior finish but also helped displace heat absorbed during hot days and nights. The building was also designed with environmental issues in mind, such as keeping it in line with other buildings constructed around the Cardiff Bay area and ensuring maximum space usage on a tight budget.
