Corporate allure down under
Article Abstract:
Australia is attracting multinational corporations with its political stability, English-speaking skilled labor force, modern energy and telecommunications infrastructure and its moderate inflation rate, which helps keep operations costs down. The Australian Trade Commission reports that 283 multinational corporations have established offices in Australia since 1993, with most offices established in New South Wales. Services and communications-dependent firms will benefit from relocating to Australia, while the manufacturing and marketing industries may suffer, due to high wages and less tax and financial incentives given by the government.

Disease spreads down under
Article Abstract:
Asia's financial chaos and economic decline in 1997 is damaging the economic situation of Australia. Apart from Australia's financial markets, regional trade and other aspects of the economy are being adversely affected. Adverse effects include lower live cattle exports and diamond sales, and a depreciated Australian dollar. Japan and South Korea serve as Australia's two key single trading partners.

More women climb corporate ladder
Article Abstract:
The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that women are beginning to enter the managerial workforce but the 20% figure remains painfully low and still reflects the country's gender barriers. Some companies sensitive to the potentials of women managers, such as Westpac Banking Corp, are changing the face of the corporate image and have succeeded in removing gender issues within the company.
