Sephora plans to expand by opening a number of large stores dedicated to color cosmetics, scents and skin creams. the company plans 50 US stores by year-end 1999, and is also opening a store in Tokyo, Japan. The stores aim to allow consumers to experiment, providing cleasning pads and make-up remover. Sephora offers a wider range of competitively priced products, and its sales are growing faster than department stores' cosmetics sales. The company's own-label products are also selling well.
