Nursing the nursing shortage back to health
Article Abstract:
The Division of Nursing of the American Hospital Association estimates that there are 160,000 vacant positons for nurses. The US Bureau of Census estimates that this will increase to 600,000 by the year 2000. The need for nurses grows as more nurses seek alternative work settings such as doctors' offices, health agencies, insurance companies, and risk management companies where attractive corporate benefits are available. Hospitals are now offering improved compensation packages such as higher pay, incentives and benefits to attract more nurses into the hospital setting.
