The latest weapon in the battle between wolves and ranchers in the Rocky Mountains is noise, which is used to frighten wolves away from sheep and cattle. Wolves were reintroduced into central Idaho in 1995-96, and may soon be downgraded to a 'threatened' instead of 'endangered' species.

Crying freedom: the Bank of Japan
Article Abstract:
Japan's central bank, the Bank of Japan, is seeking greater independence from the finance ministry. The ministry's control over the central bank has not been reduced since the end of the second world war. A more autonomous central bank might control rising inflation.
